She is known for her ability to connect with audiences across many different cultures. This is largely due to her talent for singing in multiple languages. Pausini has built a career that spans several decades and continents. Her work has earned her massive global sales and many prestigious awards. She is recognized as a major figure in both Italian and Latin music.

Pausini's journey began with musical encouragement from her father, Fabrizio Pausini. He was a former pianist and a session musician. He encouraged her to perform and provided her with singing lessons. Her early training included singing in a church choir. In 1987, she recorded a demo album titled *I sogni di Laura*. This collection included eight cover songs and five original pieces. She also participated in various singing competitions to develop her skills.

Her professional breakthrough occurred in 1993 at the 43rd Sanremo Music Festival.

She competed in the newcomer artists' section with the song "La solitudine." The song was written by Angelo Valsiglio, Pietro Cremonesi, and Federico Cavalli. Pausini won the competition with 7,464 votes from the juries. This victory launched her first professional studio album, also titled *Laura Pausini*. She recorded this album while she was still a high school student. The debut album became an international success, selling over two million copies worldwide.

Following her initial success, Pausini expanded her reach through strategic language use. Her second album, *Laura*, was released in 1994 and sold three million copies.

She also released a Spanish-language compilation that became a diamond-certified hit in Spain. This made her the first non-Spanish artist to achieve such a milestone there. From that point on, she often recorded songs in both Italian and Spanish. This practice helped her define her career and reach the Hispanic market. She has also recorded in languages like Portuguese, French, German, Chinese, and Latin.

Pausini's commercial impact is reflected in significant sales figures and rankings. In 2014, she received a FIMI Icon Award for selling more than 70 million records.

In 2025, Billboard ranked her 9th on their list of the best female Latin pop artists of all time. Her albums, such as *Le cose che vivi*, have sold millions of units globally.

Her talent has been recognized by the world's most important musical institutions. In 2006, she won a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album for *Escucha*.
