It has a very special design. It uses two large mirrors on one base. This design is why it is called "binocular."

Each mirror is 8.4 meters wide. Together, they catch a lot of light. They can act like one giant telescope. This helps scientists see tiny details in space. The telescope uses adaptive optics to work well. Adaptive optics are tools that fix blurry images caused by the air.

This allows the telescope to see very clearly.

One of its first big jobs was looking at a galaxy. This galaxy is named NGC 2770. It is 88 million light years away.

The telescope took three different kinds of images of it. Some images showed hot stars. Other images showed older, cooler stars.

The telescope also helps us watch space travel. In 2017, it watched the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft. This is a machine sent to study an asteroid.
