It can make a clear picture for your eyes. It can also take a photo or collect data. There are three main kinds of telescopes.

Refracting telescopes use glass lenses to bend light.

Reflecting telescopes use curved mirrors to catch light. Catadioptric telescopes use both lenses and mirrors.

A telescope's power depends on its objective. The objective is the main part that collects light. It can be a large lens or a big mirror. The larger the objective, the more light it catches. This helps you see tiny details. For example, a big mirror can show small moon craters.

People use telescopes for many things. Some look at stars and planets. Others use them to watch birds or hunt. Long ago, makers of eyeglasses helped create the first telescopes. In 1608, Hans Lippershey filed a patent for a telescope. Later, Galileo Galilei made his own version. He was the first to use them to study space.
