The Extremely Large Telescope is a giant tool for space.

It is being built on Cerro Armazones in Chile. This telescope will be the largest of its kind. It will catch 100 million times more light than our eyes.

This helps it see very far away. It will take images 15 times sharper than the Hubble Space Telescope.

The telescope uses a special set of mirrors. The main mirror is made of 798 small pieces. These pieces are shaped like hexagons. They fit together to make one big surface.

Tiny sensors help keep these pieces in the right place. This is important because wind or heat can move them.

The telescope also uses adaptive optics. This is a way to fix blurry light from our air. It uses extra mirrors to make the images clear. Scientists hope to use it to study far away planets. They may even find water or life in space.

Construction is happening now. It should be ready for its first light in 2029.
