To the north, you can see the Yanshan Mountains. The Taihang Mountains sit to the west of the city. To the east lies the Bohai Sea. The south of the region is part of the wide North China Plain. This city is the smallest in Hebei by land area. It covers about 6,429 square kilometers.

Many different groups of people live across the city. In 2020, the census counted over five million people living there. A large part of this group lives in the built-up metro area. This area includes the Anci and Guangyang districts. Some parts of Langfang are very close to other big cities. For example, Sanhe City and Dachang Hui County are part of the same built-up area as Beijing. The city is divided into many smaller parts. It has two districts, two cities, five counties, and one autonomous county. It also includes many towns and villages.

Langfang has a long and busy history. In the year 1900, there was a fight called the Battle of Langfang. During this time, Chinese forces were victorious against European forces. Later, the area saw another big event during the Second Sino-Japanese War. In the summer of 1938, a large uprising happened in the region. This was called the Jidong People's Anti-Japanese Armed Uprising. It was a very large and important movement during World War II. This history shows how much the land has changed over time.

Today, the city is a place for work and new ideas. Many people work with computers, technology, and making things. There is a huge place called the Oriental University City. It cost 4 billion yuan to build and started in 1999. About 50,000 students go to some of the universities there. Langfang is also home to two big national oil and gas companies. One is the China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau. The other is the ENN Group, which works with natural gas.
