They are in a low valley. Rugged mountains sit all around them. One peak is Carrauntoohil. It is the highest mountain in Ireland.

There are three lakes in this group. The first lake is Lough Leane. It is the largest lake. It is also the furthest north. Many small islands with trees sit in it.

You can see the ruins of an old abbey on Innisfallen island. A stone castle sits on its shore too.

The next lake is Muckross Lake. Some people call it Middle Lake. It is the deepest lake in Ireland.

A stone bridge called Brickeen Bridge connects it to the first lake. You can walk on a paved trail around it.

The third lake is the Upper Lake. It is the smallest lake. It sits at the south end. A winding channel separates it from the other lakes. Many people visit to see the beautiful views.
