These vines can be short or live for a long time. The plant has leaves with three pointed parts. It makes flowers that can be white, blue, or purple. The plant also makes pods. These pods can be green or bright purple. Inside each pod, there are up to four seeds. The seeds can be many colors, like red, black, or white.

People eat many parts of this plant. They eat the seeds, the pods, the leaves, and even the flowers. In some places, people use the seeds to make tofu. To make the beans safe to eat, people must boil them well in water. This is important because the beans can be toxic if not cooked right.

Lablab also helps the earth. It works with tiny bacteria in the soil. These bacteria are called rhizobium. The bacteria help the plant take nitrogen from the air. This makes the soil better for other crops to grow. This makes the lablab a great plant for farmers to use.
