Before this, many Vietnamese dynasties lasted only a short time. The Lý leaders changed that by focusing on peace and a strong economy. They used the rule of law to lead the people. This helped the country grow in a very steady way.

To make the country work well, the leaders did many things. They helped farmers by building dikes and canals to manage water. This made it easier to grow food for everyone. They also moved the capital to a place called Đại La.

Later, this important city was renamed Thăng Long. Today, we know this famous place as Hanoi. This move helped the dynasty enter a very successful era.

Learning and religion were also huge parts of life. Many emperors followed Buddhism and built beautiful things for their faith.

At the same time, ideas from Confucianism began to grow. In 1070, Emperor Lý Thánh Tông built the Temple of Literature.

He also helped start the Quốc Tử Giám in 1076. This was Vietnam's very first university for students to study.

There were many important people during these years. The first emperor was Lý Công Uẩn, who took power in 1009.

Later, a leader named Lý Nhân Tông became the longest-reigning ruler. He was helped by many smart scholars like Tô Hiến Thành. These men worked hard to keep the government running well. Even during wars, like the battle against the Song dynasty, leaders like Lý Thường Kiệt protected the land.

The Lý dynasty ended in a very unusual way. In 1225, the ruler was an eight-year-old girl named Lý Chiêu Hoàng. She was pressured to give up her throne to her husband, Trần Cảnh. This moment marked the end of a long and famous era. The ways the Lý dynasty organized the state lasted for a long time. Many later dynasties used the same capital city that the Lý leaders chose.
