Sobchak's career in entertainment began with significant success in the early 2000s. She gained widespread fame in 2004 as the host of the reality show Dom-2. Between 2008 and 2010, she hosted several other programs, including Last Hero-6 and Two Stars. In 2010, she hosted Freedom of Thought on the state-run Channel 5. She also hosted Top Model po-russki on Muz-TV. In 2012, she launched the talk show GosDep on MTV Russia. This show covered social and political issues, but it was cancelled after one episode. MTV Russia stated the cancellation was due to low audience interest in politics.

Beyond television, Sobchak has explored several other creative and professional fields. She served as the editor-in-chief of L'Officiel Russia from 2014 to 2018. In the film industry, she acted in comedies such as Hitler Goes Kaput! and Rzhevsky Versus Napoleon. She also appeared in the film Thieves and Prostitutes. Sobchak's personal history is closely linked to Russian political leadership. She is the daughter of Anatoly Sobchak and Lyudmila Narusova. Anatoly Sobchak was the first democratically elected mayor of Saint Petersburg. He was also a law professor for Vladimir Putin at Leningrad State University. In 2006, Sobchak attempted to lead a youth movement called "Everyone is Free!" She created this group after receiving letters from fans regarding their personal problems. She described the movement as non-political and aimed at supporting young people. Sobchak used her personal funds to finance the movement's headquarters on Arbat Street. The movement's headquarters featured a signature blue denim color. One notable action involved cleaning a monument to Sergei Yesenin on Tverskoy Boulevard. Despite these efforts, the movement faced challenges in gaining widespread support. An online survey showed that only 6% of respondents wanted to join for political reasons. Eventually, the movement ceased its activities.

Sobchak made a major move into formal politics in 2017. She announced her candidacy for the 2018 Russian presidential election. She discussed this decision personally with Vladimir Putin before the announcement. Putin responded by stating that every person has the right to nominate themselves. He noted that personal connections should not play a role in presidential runs. Sobchak ran as the candidate for the Civic Initiative party.
