Knight (chess)

arts Maturity 7-9 Next article →

The knight is a piece in chess. It has a very special move. It moves in the shape of a capital L. It can also jump over other pieces. This helps it move past blockades.

Each player starts with two knights. They sit between a rook and a bishop. The knight moves to a new color each time. It can have up to eight moves at once.

Knights are strong in the middle of the board. They are weak in a corner. They can control squares of any color. This makes them very useful.

Some people call the knight a horse. In other lands, people call it a jumper. It is a fun piece to use in a game.
