The rook is a piece in chess.

Each player starts with two rooks. They sit in the corners of the board.

A rook moves in straight lines. It can move up, down, or sideways. It cannot jump over other pieces.

You can use a rook to take an enemy piece. It can also do a special move called castling. This move uses the king too.

Some people call the rook a castle. Most players just say rook.
