Flagstad learned her craft through many years of practice and study. She grew up in a musical family in Oslo, Norway. Her father was a conductor and her mother was a pianist. She even studied with a teacher named Dr. Gillis Bratt in Stockholm. She was very good at learning new parts for plays. Sometimes it only took her a few days to learn a role. This skill helped her move from smaller roles to much harder ones. She eventually found her true voice when she sang the role of Isolde.

Her journey to fame began in her home country of Norway.

Her first performance was as Sieglinde in the opera Die Walküre. Even though it was not planned to be a giant event, it became a sensation. The performance was broadcast on the radio all across America. People loved her so much that her shows sold out quickly. Some say her popularity even helped the opera house avoid losing all its money. She even became a star in Hollywood and has a star on the Walk of Fame.

Life was not always easy for the famous singer. During a war, she made the difficult choice to return to her home in Norway. This caused many people in the United States to feel upset with her. She faced many hard years of public criticism because of this decision. However, she never stopped loving music or performing. Eventually, she was invited back to sing at the Metropolitan Opera and the Royal Opera House. She proved that her talent was truly great and lasted a long time.
