Kinnekulle is a mountain in southwestern Sweden.

It sits in the county of Västergötland. The mountain is on the east shore of Lake Vänern. It has a very wide and flat top.

This mountain is a special part of the land. Long ago, the bottom rocks were under the sea. Sand, mud, and sea animal remains piled up. These layers made different types of rock. Some of these rocks are sandstones and limestones.

About 200 million years ago, the land rose above the sea. Molten lava moved through the rock. This made layers of hard rock called diabase. This hard rock acts like a shield. It protects the softer rock underneath from wearing away. This is why the top stays flat.

Many old things are found here. There are many gallery graves. These are stone tombs from long ago. The town of Husaby is near the south side. Tradition says a king was baptized at a well there in 1008.
