In the year 1035, a large land was split into three parts. A man named Ramiro received the part called Aragon. He became its first leader. His son, Sancho Ramírez, was the first to call himself King of Aragon. As the land grew, the capital moved to Huesca and then to Zaragoza.

In 1150, a queen and a count married. Their son, Alfonso II, ruled many lands. This created the Crown of Aragon. The king ruled many places like Catalonia and Valencia. He also ruled lands in Italy and Greece.

Later, Aragon joined with the land of Castile. This happened after King John II died in 1479. This union helped form the country we know as Spain today. For a long time, Aragon kept its own rules and groups. This changed between 1707 and 1715. A king named Philip V made new laws. These laws gave more power to the central Spanish government. Today, Aragon is a special part of Spain.
