This snake is a top hunter. It mostly eats other snakes. It can even eat snakes of its own kind. It uses its tongue to smell. The tongue picks up scent particles from the air. Then it moves those scents to a special part in the mouth. This helps the snake find food.

Female king cobras are very busy. They are the only snakes that build nests above the ground. They use dry leaves to make a nest. The mother stays with the eggs to keep them safe. Most king cobras try to avoid people. If they feel scared, they may raise their head. They spread their neck to make a hood. They also make a low sound like a growl.
