To be a great shooter, you need a lot of practice. Kim began competing in skeet when she was only ten years old. She even went on African safaris for sport hunting as a child. In competitions, athletes must hit many targets very quickly. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, Kim hit 99 out of 100 clays. This amazing score tied the world record for skeet shooting. She showed great skill by hitting almost every single target.

Kim's journey started in Whittier, California. She was born there on July 16, 1979. She won her first world championship title at age 13. By 1995, she became a Distinguished International Shooter. She has won many medals in the ISSF World Cup too. Her record includes 19 gold, 7 silver, and 8 bronze medals. These awards show how hard she has worked for many years.

Kim has traveled to many different places for her sport. She won medals at the Olympics in several different countries. In 2000, she won bronze in Sydney, Australia. In 2004, she won gold in Athens, Greece. In 2012, she won gold during the Summer Olympics. In 2016, she won bronze in Rio. She is the first Olympian to win medals on five different continents.

Kim has faced many hard jobs during her career. In 2008, her competition shotgun was stolen from her truck. She had used that gun for eighteen years. Luckily, the gun was found and returned in 2009. Fans even donated money to help her buy a new Perazzi shotgun. This new gun cost $13,000. Even with these challenges, Kim kept competing at the highest level.
