It is one of the four main schools of this faith. The name means a line of spoken lessons. This is because teachers pass wisdom to students by talking. Some call this the "Golden Rosary" tradition.

This group has many centers in over 60 countries. The leaders are called Karmapas. They are known for wearing a special black crown. Because of this, people call them "Black Hat" lamas. The first Karmapa was named Düsum Khyenpa.

Followers use many special ways to learn. One main way is called Mahamudra. This is a type of meditation. It has four main stages. These stages help a person find deep peace.
