Long ago, a Berber queen named Dihya lived in North Africa. Many people called her Al-Kahina. This name means "the priestess." People thought she could see the future. She lived in the Aurès Mountains. She led many Berber tribes together.

In the year 698, she fought a big battle. She met an army led by Hassan ibn al-Nu'man. Dihya won this fight at Meskiana. After her win, she ruled a large area. She ruled for five years.

To protect her land, she used a hard plan. She burned crops and riches. She hoped this would stop the enemy. But this plan made her people lose trust. They left her to find help elsewhere.

Later, the enemy returned. Dihya fought at the Amphitheatre of El Jem.
