Ibn Tumart died in 1130. After that, a man named Abd al-Mu'min became the leader. He was a very strong ruler. He led the Almohads to win many battles. By 1159, they ruled much of North Africa. They also took control of parts of Spain. This area was called Al-Andalus.

The empire was very big. They had a strict way to organize their people. They even had a large army with many parts. But things began to change in 1212. A group of Christian forces defeated the Almohads in a big battle. This battle was called the Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa. After this, the Almohads lost much of their land in Spain. They ruled in Africa for a few more years. Eventually, a new group called the Marinids took over their lands.
