She was the daughter of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel. Athaliah married King Jehoram of Judah. This marriage helped join two kingdoms together.

After Jehoram died, their son Ahaziah became king. Athaliah became the queen mother. When Ahaziah died, Athaliah took the throne for herself. She wanted to keep her power. To do this, she killed many people in the royal family. This included many young children.

One woman named Jehosheba tried to help. She saved a baby boy named Jehoash.

A priest named Jehoiada hid the boy in secret. Jehoash grew up away from the queen.

Six years later, Jehoiada helped Jehoash become king. This happened in the Temple. Athaliah tried to stop this change. However, she was killed by guards outside the Temple. Her rule ended there. Many artists later made plays and music about her life.
