John of Ávila was a famous Spanish priest and teacher. He was a religious mystic, which means he had deep spiritual experiences. Many people call him the "Apostle of Andalusia" because he spent so much time working there. The Catholic Church later named him a saint. They also gave him the title Doctor of the Church.
