British officials helped set up a special area called a concession. This area was a narrow strip of land between the river and Gantang Lake. It covered about 150 acres of land. During this time, the city exported large amounts of rice. It was also a major center for the tea trade in China. Many people from Europe and America came to live and work here.

Life in Jiujiang has changed a lot through the years.

In the early 1900s, a place called Kuling became a famous summer resort. Kuling is on top of Mount Lu and has a beautiful landscape. At its peak, over 4,000 people from America and Europe lived there during the summer. The city also saw many hard times during wars. However, it has grown into a modern place with many new bridges and railways. A large airport now helps people travel to many capital cities.

Today, Jiujiang is a very busy place where many people live and work.
