Jinheung was one of the most famous kings of Silla. Silla was one of the Three Kingdoms of ancient Korea. He ruled for 37 years from 540 to 576. During his time, he made his kingdom much larger. He grew the land by winning many battles. He also helped his people grow their culture. This made him a very important leader in history.

Jinheung became king when he was still a young boy. His uncle, King Beopheung, died in 540. Because Jinheung was too young to rule alone, his mother helped him. Queen Jiso acted as a regent to guide the kingdom. Later, Jinheung grew up and began to rule on his own. In 541, he chose Kim Isabu to be the Head of Military Affairs. This was one of his first big acts as king.

Making the kingdom bigger was a major goal for Jinheung. In 551, he made a peace deal with the Baekje kingdom. He and the Baekje king, Seong, teamed up to attack Goguryeo. They wanted to take the land near the Han River estuary. At first, Silla and Baekje agreed to split this new land equally. However, things changed in 553. Silla and Goguryeo made a secret deal to attack the Baekje army.

These wars changed the map of Korea. King Seong of Baekje tried to fight back in 554. He was caught in an ambush and died during the conflict. Jinheung held onto the new land for seven years. In 561, he sent General Kim Isabu to conquer Daegaya. To remember his wins, Jinheung built a stone monument called a stele. He also set up new provinces to manage the land.

Jinheung left a big mark on his country. In 576, he started a group called the Hwarang. This group helped later leaders join the Three Kingdoms together. Jinheung died in 576 when he was 51 years old. His son, Prince Geumryun, became the next king named Jinji. Today, many people in Korea remember him as a great ruler. He is even shown in many modern TV shows.
