He is best known as the founder and guitarist of the rock band Led Zeppelin. Many people consider him one of the greatest guitarists of all time.

He has earned many high rankings from famous music magazines. Rolling Stone ranked him number three on their 2015 list of greatest guitarists. He held that same third place in 2023. His skill was so great that he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. He joined in 1992 with the Yardbirds and again in 1995 with Led Zeppelin.

Page learned to play the guitar in a very personal way. He found a Spanish guitar in his family home when he was young. He mostly taught himself by listening to musical records.

He would practice for six or seven hours on some days. He even took his guitar to school every day. Sometimes his teachers would take it away during class. He was inspired by the music of Elvis Presley. He even used a violin bow to play his guitar during shows.

His career began long before he became a rock star. In the early 1960s, he worked as a session musician in London.

This means he was hired to play on recordings for other artists. He was often called in as "insurance" to help a recording session. He played on songs for many famous groups. These included The Who, The Kinks, and The Rolling Stones. He even contributed music to a film for The Beatles in 1964.

Page's life started in West London in 1944.

His father worked at a plastic-coatings plant. His mother was a doctor's secretary. As a teenager, he worked a milk round to save money. He used that money to buy a Höfner President acoustic guitar. At age fifteen, he left school to follow his musical dreams. He had previously studied at Epsom County Pound Lane Primary School and Ewell County Secondary School.

Even after Led Zeppelin ended in 1980, Page kept making music. He played in several different groups like The Firm and Page and Plant.
