His technical skill and creative approach changed the way people played the electric guitar. He has received numerous honors for his contributions to the music industry. This includes being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. He joined the Hall in 1992 as a member of the Yardbirds. He was inducted again in 1995 as a member of Led Zeppelin.

Page's musical journey began with a very personal and self-driven education. He discovered a Spanish guitar in his family home when he was twelve. While he took some lessons in Kingston, he was largely self-taught. He spent many hours listening to records to learn how to play. On some days, he would practice for six or seven hours. He even carried his guitar to secondary school every day. His teachers sometimes confiscated the instrument during class time. He was inspired by rockabilly guitarists like Scotty Moore and James Burton. He even used a violin bow to play his guitar during live performances.

Before becoming a rock icon, Page built a massive career as a session musician.

In the early 1960s, he worked in London recording studios. He was often hired as "insurance" for recording sessions. This meant he was a reliable player who could step in when needed. He could perform many different styles, from folk to blues. He sometimes worked up to fifteen sessions in a single week. He even managed to do three different sessions in one day. This period allowed him to master many different musical roles.

His session work included collaborations with many famous artists and groups. He played on recordings for The Who and The Kinks. He also contributed to tracks by The Rolling Stones and Marianne Faithfull. In 1964, he even worked on the music for the Beatles film, *A Hard Day's Night*. He worked with many legendary singers like Dusty Springfield and Shirley Bassey. Page also served as a house producer for the Immediate Records label. This role allowed him to both play on and produce music for various artists. His versatility made him one of the most sought-after players in Britain.

Page's early life was shaped by his upbringing in West London and Surrey.

He was born on January 9, 1944, to James and Patricia Page. His father managed personnel at a plastic-coatings plant. His mother worked as a doctor's secretary. As a teenager, Page worked a milk round to save money. He used these savings to buy a Höfner President acoustic guitar. At age fifteen, he made the bold choice to leave school. He left to pursue music after a disagreement with a school official. This decision marked the start of his professional musical life.

Led Zeppelin became his most famous project, active from 1968 to 1980.

The band's success helped define the sound of rock music. After the death of drummer John Bonham in 1980, the band ended. However, Page continued to make music with many different groups. He played in bands called XYZ, The Firm, and Page and Plant. He also performed in the 2007 Led Zeppelin reunion concert. This performance was later released as the film *Celebration Day*. He has even shared the stage with modern groups like the Foo Fighters.

Music critics have consistently ranked Page among the elite guitarists in the world. Rolling Stone magazine placed him third on their 2015 list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists. He held that third-place ranking again in 2023. In 2010, Gibson ranked him number two on their list of top guitarists. He was also named a "wild guitar hero" by *Classic Rock* magazine. His influence is seen in the way modern musicians approach the instrument. His career connects the history of blues and folk to the era of heavy rock. He remains a vital figure in the study of musical history.
