They changed how the music industry worked. They helped make stadium rock and album-oriented rock popular.

The band had four members working as a team. Jimmy Page played the guitar and wrote most music. Robert Plant was the singer and wrote most lyrics. John Paul Jones played the bass and keyboards. John Bonham was the drummer.

They worked together to create a powerful sound. John Paul Jones said they locked together as a team immediately. This teamwork helped them create many great songs.

The group grew out of a band called the Yardbirds. Jimmy Page was a guitarist in that older group. In 1968, he started a new project. They were first called "the New Yardbirds."

They eventually changed their name to Led Zeppelin. One story says the name came from a joke about a "lead balloon." They chose the word "zeppelin" because it sounded both heavy and graceful. They signed a big deal with Atlantic Records in 1968.

Led Zeppelin released eight studio albums over ten years.
