This place is a very special home for many families. It is known as the ancestral homeland for about 4 million overseas Chinese. These people live in 107 different countries and regions around the world. Because of this, the area has very strong connections to other lands. Some people call the rural parts the "Four Counties." However, since Heshan was added to the city, locals often call it the "Five Counties." This shows how the city has grown over time.

Jiangmen has a long and interesting history. In 1904, the city was forced to open for trade with the West. This happened after a declaration in 1902 made it a treaty port. During this time, many western-style buildings were built along the waterfront. Today, the government is working on a project to fix these old buildings. In 1949, the city became part of the People's Republic of China. It was officially named a city in 1951.
