It powers engines called gas turbines. This fuel can look clear or like straw. It is a mix of many different parts. Because the mix changes, we define it by how it works. We do not use one single recipe.

Most planes use Jet A or Jet A-1. Jet A-1 is used in most of the world. It stays liquid in very cold air. It also has a special additive to stop static electricity. This keeps the fuel safe. In very cold places like Alaska, people use Jet B. This fuel works well in extreme cold.

Fuel must be very clean. Water can get into the fuel. In the sky, it gets very cold. This causes water to turn into ice. Ice can block the pipes that carry fuel. To stop this, planes use fuel heaters. This keeps the fuel flowing so the plane can fly safely.
