Jerome did big tests on tiny parts. He worked with Henry Kendall and Richard Taylor. They used a place called the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. They shot electrons at protons. This showed that protons have parts inside them. These tiny parts are called quarks.

This work was very important. It helped people understand the quark model. Because of this, Jerome won the Nobel Prize in Physics. He shared the prize in 1990. He is a professor at MIT. This is a school in Massachusetts. He also helps the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. In 2008, he wrote a letter to the President. He wanted more money for science research.
