He called it Jeet Kune Do. He wanted a way to defend himself in real life. He did not like old styles that used set patterns. He thought real fights were always changing.

Lee learned from many different arts. He used moves from Wing Chun and boxing. He also used ideas from fencing and taekwondo. He called this a hybrid style. This means it mixes many things together. Many people say it helped start mixed martial arts.

Lee said to "be like water." Water is very flexible. It can flow around a rock or crash through it. He wanted fighters to be just as flexible. He taught them to use only what is useful. This helps a person move with speed and ease.

Students train in four ranges. These are kicking, punching, trapping, and grappling. They also learn to use a centerline. This is an imaginary line down the middle of the body. Controlling this line helps a person win a fight. They also learn to intercept attacks. This means hitting the opponent while they are moving toward you.
