An architect is a person who plans how structures look and work. Nouvel is known for being very brave with his ideas. He likes to challenge old rules to find new ways to build. He believes that buildings should always fit well with the world around them. He wants his work to be a part of the culture of today. This makes his buildings feel alive and very special to the people who see them.

His buildings often use clever ways to work with light and shape.

For example, the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris has a very smart south wall. It uses mechanical lenses that look like traditional Arabic patterns. These lenses open and shut automatically to let in the right amount of light. The lenses use tiny sensors to see how bright it is outside. Another famous building is the Torre Agbar in Barcelona.

People say it looks like it is made of bright, candy-colored shapes.

Nouvel's journey into art began when he was a teenager. He was born in Fumel, France, on August 12, 1945. His parents were teachers who encouraged him to study math and languages. However, a teacher showed him how to draw when he was 16 years old. This changed everything for him because he became captivated by art. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris after moving there.

He even worked as an assistant to other architects to earn money.

Throughout his long career, Nouvel has achieved many great things. In 2008, he won the Pritzker Prize, which is the highest honor for an architect. He has worked on more than 200 different projects across the globe.

Nouvel's creativity reaches far beyond just big buildings and towers.
