Sverre Fehn was a famous architect from Norway. An architect is a person who designs buildings. He was born in Kongsberg in 1924. Fehn studied at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design. He began his studies there in 1946. He graduated in 1949. He learned from teachers like Arne Korsmo.

Fehn's work was shaped by his travels. In 1952 and 1953, he visited Morocco. There, he saw vernacular architecture. This is the way local people build things using local styles. This discovery changed his future work. Later, he moved to Paris for two years. He worked in the studio of Jean Prouvé. In Paris, he also knew the famous architect Le Corbusier.

He became a world-famous designer quite early. At age 34, he gained recognition for the Norwegian Pavilion. This was built for the 1958 Brussels World Exhibition in Belgium. In the 1960s, he created two very important buildings. One was the Nordic Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in Italy. The other was the Hedmark Museum in Hamar. He worked on that museum from 1967 to 1979.

Fehn designed more than 100 different buildings. Some of his other notable works include the Norwegian Glacier Museum in Fjærland. He also worked on the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design in Oslo. He was a teacher for many years at his old school. He taught from 1971 to 1995. He even served as the principal from 1986 to 1989. He gave lectures in many cities like Paris and Barcelona. He also taught in the United States at MIT in Boston.

Many groups gave Fehn awards for his skill. In 1961, he won the Houen Foundation Award. He won that same award again in 1975 for the Hedmark Museum. In 1994, he was named a Commander in the Order of St. Olav. His highest international honor came in 1997. That year, he won the Pritzker Architecture Prize. He also won the Heinrich Tessenow Gold Medal. He died in his Oslo home at age 84.
