language culture Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Jasmine rice is a special kind of rice. It has a lovely smell. This scent is like popcorn or pandan leaves. The smell comes from a natural part of the plant. Many people like to eat the newest harvest. This is because the smell stays strong in fresh rice.

This rice grows in many warm places. Most of it grows in Thailand and Cambodia. It also grows in Laos and Vietnam. In Thailand, it is called Hom Mali. In Cambodia, people grow types like Phka Rumduol. These two lands share many kinds of jasmine rice.

When you cook it, the rice feels soft. It can be a bit sticky. It is more sticky than most long-grain rice. You can eat white jasmine rice or brown rice. White rice is easy to digest. Brown rice keeps its tan outer layer. This layer has vitamins and is good for your body.

Chefs around the world love this rice. It has won many prizes. In 2017, Thai rice was named the best in the world. In 2022, Cambodian rice won the top prize. People enjoy eating it with stir fries or in soups.
