It grows in warm, tropical places. Many teak trees live in South and Southeast Asia. Myanmar has nearly half of the world's natural teak.

This tree has big, papery leaves. The bottom of the leaf is often hairy. From June to August, the tree grows small white flowers. These flowers grow in thick clusters. Insects like bees help move pollen between the flowers.

People love teak because of its wood. The wood has a smell like leather when it is fresh. It is very strong and does not rot easily. Teak has natural oils that help it resist water.

These oils also help protect the wood from bugs. Because it stays strong in water, people use it for boat decks. It is also used for outdoor furniture and floors. If left in the sun, the wood turns a pretty silver-grey color. To grow new trees, people often start with seeds. They soak the seeds in water and dry them in the sun. This helps the seeds wake up so they can grow.
