It grows from a taproot, which is a long root like a carrot. The stems are thin and hollow. Its leaves are soft and delicate. In hot weather, the plant grows small white or yellow flowers. These flowers grow in groups called umbels.

Dill needs lots of sun and warm summers to grow well. It likes soil that is rich and drains water quickly. People can harvest the seeds by cutting the flower heads. They put the heads in a paper bag for one week. Then, the seeds come off the stems easily.

Many people use dill to flavor food. In Europe, people use the leaves in soups and pickles. In India, it is used in many dishes. Some people even use it to help with digestion.
