Basmati grows mainly in India and Pakistan. India makes over 70% of the world's supply. Many countries around the world buy and eat it. In Indonesia, farmers grow a local type called baroma. In the United States, a type called Texmati is grown in Texas. To keep the smell strong, you can soak the rice for 30 minutes. This also helps it cook faster. Because it is so popular, some traders mix in cheaper rice. Scientists now use DNA tests to make sure the rice is real basmati.
