It is seen as a place where believers find great joy. This belief is one of the six main articles of faith. People believe Jannah and the place of suffering, called jahannam, already exist. They exist alongside our current world rather than being made later.

History and stories connect Jannah to the very beginning of life. Some people believe Jannah is the same place where Adam and Eve lived. It is also called the Garden of Eden.

This was the home they lived in before they were sent to Earth. Many different scholars have written about these ideas over many centuries. Some famous books on this topic include works by Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziya. Others were written by the scholar al-Ghazali. These writers helped explain the details of the afterworld.

There are many specific details about how Jannah is organized. It has several different levels for people to live in. The higher levels have more prestige and more pleasure.

People enter Jannah based on their faith and their good deeds. They should be truthful, help orphans, and feed the needy. Some believe jinn can also find salvation and enter Jannah. Angels work there to serve the people and carry messages. However, the devils cannot return to this place.

The Mu'tazila school believed Jannah would be created on Judgement Day. Other groups believe that even people who make mistakes might enter. This shows how much people wonder about the afterlife. It remains a very important part of Islamic belief and study.
