He is often called the "master of light." He uses light to change how we see a room. He mixes natural light from the sun with bright colors from lamps. This makes the colors in a space shift and change.

One of his main works is a series called Skyspaces.

A Skyspace is a room with an opening in the roof. People sit on benches to look up at the sky. These rooms can make the sky look like a painting. It can feel like the sky is within reach.

Turrell is also working on a very big project. It is called the Roden Crater.

He is turning a giant volcano into a place to see the stars. He has spent many years moving dirt and building tunnels there. He wants to bring the sun and moon into our world. He wants to make events that shape and hold light. His art helps us see the beauty of the sky in new ways.
