Judd did not want his art to look like something else. He wanted his work to just exist. He made things called "specific objects." These were not quite paintings and not quite sculptures.

He used many different materials. He used metal, concrete, and plywood. He also used Plexiglas, which is a clear plastic.

He often made "stacks." These are groups of same shapes that go from floor to ceiling. He also made "boxes" and "progressions."

Judd did not always make every piece by hand. He used drawings to tell workers how to make them. He used tools and machines to get a clean look. He also liked to think about space. He made large works that filled up whole rooms. He wanted people to feel the art with their whole bodies.

He lived and worked in many places, like New York and Texas.
