James Ellroy is a famous American writer of crime fiction. He is known for a very special way of writing. His sentences are often short and punchy. This style is sometimes called telegraphese. He often leaves out small connecting words to make the story move fast. He first used this style for his book L.A. Confidential. An editor asked him to make that book much shorter. Instead of removing whole parts, he cut every word he did not need. This created a style that feels direct and powerful.
