It connects the Nova Scotia peninsula to North America. This land sits between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. It separates Chignecto Bay from the Northumberland Strait.

Most of the land is low and flat. You can find many wet marshes and mud flats there. Some parts have green forests. There are also high ridges. These ridges rise above the low marshes.

Many people use this path to travel. Cars use the Trans-Canada Highway to cross it. Trains also run across the isthmus. This makes it a key route for moving goods.

This place was very important in history. Many groups fought to control it. They built forts on the high ridges. For example, the British built Fort Lawrence. The French built Fort Beauséjour.

The land is at risk of flooding. If the sea rises by 12 metres, the land would go under water. This would make Nova Scotia an island. People are working to fix the dikes to keep the water out.
