The highest point is a mountain called Snaefell. From its top, people say you can see six different kingdoms.

The weather on the island is shaped by the sea. It has a temperate oceanic climate. This means the air stays fairly mild. The water in the Irish Sea stays at a steady temperature. Because of this, it is rare to have frost on the ground. It only happens about ten times a year. The island gets a lot of rain from the wind. This rain comes from the south-west. Snaefell is the wettest place on the island.

Some parts of the island are sunnier than England. The island is also known for its unique nature. It has a special status called a biosphere reserve. This was awarded by UNESCO in 2016.

People have lived on this island for a very long time. Humans arrived by sea before 6500 BC.

Early people were hunters, fishers, and farmers. They built large stone monuments like Cashtal yn Ard. Many different groups have ruled the island over the years. In the 9th century, Norsemen from Scandinavia settled there. They formed the Kingdom of the Isles. Later, the island was part of the Kingdom of Norway. For a time, it was also ruled by Scotland and England. In 1765, the British Crown took over the lordship of the island.

The Isle of Man has its own way of governing itself. It has its own parliament called Tynwald. This group is very old and has existed for a long time. Tynwald was very important for women's rights. In 1881, it became the first national parliament to let women vote. This was a huge step for the whole world. Today, the United Kingdom helps with the island's defense. The UK also represents the island in other countries. However, the Isle of Man still keeps its own identity.
