People loved his movies because they felt full of freedom and energy.

Thalberg used many new ways to make films better. He held story conferences with writers to plan the plots. He also held sneak previews to see what audiences thought. If a scene was not perfect, he would order it to be re-shot. These steps helped make sure the movies were high quality. He even helped bring horror films to the big screen. He also helped write the "Production Code," which were rules for movies.

He was born in 1899 to German Jewish immigrant parents. As a child, he had a heart disease called "blue baby syndrome." Doctors thought he might not live past age thirty. Because he was often sick, he spent a lot of time reading. He read many classic books, plays, and biographies. This helped him learn a lot about stories and people. He later worked as a speechwriter for a political candidate.
