Ince was a pioneer who changed how the movie business worked forever. He helped create the modern Hollywood studio system we know today. His work was so important that three of his films are kept in the National Film Registry. These special movies are *The Italian*, *Hell's Hinges*, and *Civilization*.

Ince changed filmmaking by using a new way to work called the assembly line system. Before him, a director often did almost every job themselves. Ince decided to hire different people for different tasks instead. He hired separate writers to tell stories and editors to cut the film. He also helped create the job of the producer. A producer is the person in charge of a movie from the very start to the very end. This allowed his studio to make many more films in a single week.

His family moved to Manhattan when he was a young boy to work in the theater. He actually started acting on Broadway when he was only 15 years old. Later, he moved to California to find more space for making movies. He wanted to work in Hollywood because he thought it was the best place for film. He eventually moved to the West Coast to direct westerns at Bison Studios.

This was the first major studio facility that had everything in one single place. It had offices, dressing rooms, and even a large kitchen for hundreds of workers. The grounds even had streets with buildings that looked like they were from different countries. He even brought 300 cowboys and 600 horses from the 101 Ranch to help make his films.
