He was born in 1895 in the Russian Empire. He studied medicine and how the mind works. Later, he moved to New York City.

Velikovsky had very big ideas about space. He believed planets like Venus and Mars came near Earth. He thought these close calls caused big changes in history. He used old stories and the Bible to explain this. He also thought the timing of ancient history was different than what experts said.

Many scientists did not believe him. They said his ideas were not real science. This led to a big fight called the "Velikovsky affair." Some experts even tried to stop his books from being sold.

Even so, his books were very popular. Many people loved to read them. He traveled to speak to large crowds in many places. He died in 1979. His daughters kept his papers for a long time. Now, many of his writings are kept at a library at Princeton University.
