Most iguanas are herbivores. This means they eat only plants, like leaves and flowers. To eat tough plants, they have a special skull. Their skulls are tall and wide. This helps them have a strong bite. Their teeth are small and serrated. This means they have tiny saw-like edges to help them shear food.

Iguanas have many scales on their bodies. Some scales are large and round. They also have a parietal eye. This is a pale scale on the back of their head. It helps them sense light. It tells them when it is day or night.
