The Idrisid dynasty was a ruling family in Morocco. They ruled from the year 788 to 974. The family was named after their founder, Idris I. He was a leader who came from the family of Muhammad.

Idris I arrived in Morocco after a battle in the east. Local Berber tribes helped him. They made him their religious leader. Idris I and his son, Idris II, helped build the city of Fez. Fez became the capital of their state. Many Arab people moved to the city. This helped the city grow into a big center for religion and trade.

After Idris II died, things changed. His many sons split the land to rule. This led to fights between the brothers. For a while, the state was stable again. But later, the family faced many new challenges. Other powerful groups began to fight for control of the land. The Idrisids lost control of Fez in 927. They moved to a fort in the north. Finally, they were removed from power in 974.
