Amin ruled as a dictator for eight years. His time in power was very difficult for Uganda. He was known for being a very harsh leader. Many people were treated unfairly during his rule. Some groups and political rivals faced great danger. Observers estimate that 100,000 to 500,000 people died under his regime. Because of this, people called him "The Butcher of Uganda."
