He was born in 1885. He worked in a shop for many years. In 1923, he started his own clothing company. His factory made shirts, jackets, and raincoats.

In 1931, Boss joined the Nazi Party. This was a group that held power in Germany. His company made uniforms for many groups in that party. This included the SS and the Hitler Youth. During the war, his company used forced labour. This means they made people work who were not free. Some of these workers were prisoners of war from France and Poland.

After the war, leaders looked at what Boss had done. At first, he faced a heavy fine. He also lost his right to vote or run a business. Later, his label was changed to a "fellow traveller." This meant he had a less severe punishment. His son-in-law, Eugen Holy, took over the company. Boss died in 1948 at age 63. In 2011, the company said it was sorry for using forced workers.
