Hugo Schmeisser was a famous maker of weapons. He lived in Germany during the 1900s. His father was also a well-known designer. Hugo learned his skills at a place called Bergmann. He studied how machine guns work there.

After World War I, new rules changed his work. Germany was not allowed to make heavy guns. Hugo and his brother Hans started their own company. They worked with a group called Haenel for 20 years. Hugo even made a second company to protect his ideas. This helped his business stay safe.

One of his most famous tools was the StG 44. This was an assault rifle, which is a gun that can fire many shots quickly. It was a very important new design. He also made many submachine guns. People often called them "Schmeisser MP" guns. This was because he made a special part called a magazine. The magazine is a part that holds the bullets.

After World War II, Hugo moved to the Soviet Union. He worked there as a designer for many years. He finally returned to Germany in 1952. He died in 1953 in the city of Suhl.
